Story
Hi, my name’s Hayden.
This September I'll be running 25km a day to raise awareness and funds for Beyond DV.
25 years ago, my mum took her own life to escape the terror of an abusive partner. The effects of that loss have followed me throughout my life and, at times, have crippled me.
I’ve set off on this journey—not for myself, but for her.
I was too young to help my mum. But maybe, through a little bit of optional suffering now, I can help stop the suffering of women like her—by raising awareness and funds with the support of Beyond DV.
So that other women don’t lose their battle with domestic violence—in one way or another.
If, through this journey, we can save even one woman’s future…
If we can stop one child from growing up without the love and presence of their mother—
Then this will have been worth it.
If I had been the man I am today, back then, I would have moved heaven and earth to keep her safe from the terror she faced.
But I couldn’t.
So now, this journey is my way of saying sorry to her.
Help me help them—before it’s too late.
Beyond DV Ltd
Beyond DV is a Brisbane-based organisation focused on the prevention of domestic and family violence through recovery support for victim/survivors and community education.Established after the Founder supported a loved one, Beyond DV provides long-term recovery support through innovative programs and services for women and children from three Recovery Centres.Beyond DV has created the first "HOPE Hub" at Westfield Carindale- a secure, accessible space where community is supported around social issues with a focus on Domestic Violence and Mental Health.Beyond DV has also created the "Love&Learn" Teen Relationship App and runs Domestic Violence Awareness workshops throughout the community.
